A 7-year-old child has died after being recovered from a retention pond in the suburb of Lake in the Hills.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department confirmed the tragedy following an intensive search operation.
Family members last saw the child near Steeplechase Way around 6 p.m. before reporting the youngster missing.
Police launched an immediate search of the surrounding residential area upon receiving the report.
Officers discovered the child unresponsive in a nearby retention pond shortly after the search began.
First responders from Huntley arrived on the scene and initiated life-saving measures immediately.
Medics transported the child to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite these efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to ABC7 Chicago.
Authorities have not released the identity of the child at this time.
Lake in the Hills police confirmed that investigators do not suspect foul play in the incident.
