Chicago police detectives are actively searching for a black vehicle involved in a deadly late-night drive-by shooting that left one man dead and three others wounded in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The targeted attack occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m. on Thursday within the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue.

According to investigative reports from the Chicago Police Department, a large group of people was standing outside on the residential block when the violence erupted.

Witnesses told responding patrol officers that a black vehicle slowly pulled up directly alongside the gathering.

An unidentified occupant inside the vehicle suddenly produced a firearm and began discharging multiple rounds directly into the crowd.

A 44-year-old man was struck in the chest by the incoming gunfire and collapsed onto the pavement.

Emergency medical personnel rushed the critically injured 44-year-old victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Emergency room physicians provided immediate trauma care, but they ultimately pronounced the man dead a short time later.

The high-volume gunfire also struck three other men who were standing near the primary victim during the incident.

A 34-year-old man, a 35-year-old man, and a 54-year-old man all suffered various gunshot wounds during the brief barrage.

First responders transported the three surviving victims to local hospitals, where medical staff listed all of them in good condition.

Following the shooting, the driver of the black vehicle accelerated rapidly away from the scene and fled eastbound on 51st Street.

Area One detectives arrived on the block shortly after the shooting to coordinate the collection of physical evidence and search for ballistics.

Forensic investigators spent several hours mapping out the crime scene, marking numerous shell casings scattered along the South Calumet Avenue roadway.

Local community safety advocates expressed immediate concern over the sudden outbreak of gun violence near the neighborhood park.

Block organizers are currently urging residents living along Calumet Avenue to review their private home security cameras and digital doorbell systems for any footage of the suspect vehicle.

The Chicago Police Department has increased tactical patrol assignments throughout the Washington Park area to prevent retaliatory violence.

No suspects are currently in custody, and authorities have not yet released a detailed physical description of the shooter or the vehicle’s license plate.

Investigators are working to determine an exact motive for the attack and have not confirmed if any specific individual in the group was targeted.

Officials request that anyone possessing relevant details regarding the fatal drive-by shooting call the Area One Detective Division at (312) 747-8380.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted directly to the department’s secure digital tracking network at www.cpdtip.com.
