Chicago police officers arrested a local woman this week in connection with a violent stabbing that left a resident fighting for her life on the city’s South Side.

Authorities took 27-year-old Faith Camper into custody on Wednesday afternoon directly within the neighborhood where the initial assault occurred.

The active investigation spans across the Chicago Police Department’s 2nd District, a historic section of the city commonly known as Bronzeville.

Faith Camper

According to formal charging documents released by the police department, Camper faces one felony count of first-degree attempted murder.

Prosecutors additionally leveled two distinct counts of aggravated battery against the suspect, specifically citing the use of a deadly weapon and the infliction of great bodily harm.

The severe criminal charges stem from an isolated incident that unfolded on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

On that afternoon, authorities rushed to the 200 block of East 51st Street following emergency calls regarding a physical altercation.

First responders discovered a 32-year-old female victim at the scene suffering from deep lacerations and heavy bleeding.

Paramedics immediately transported the unnamed victim to a nearby trauma center where emergency medical staff treated her for life-threatening puncture wounds.

Detectives focused their subsequent four-day investigation on the busy commercial corridor of 51st Street, located just blocks away from the local transit station.

Investigators reviewed neighborhood surveillance footage and interviewed multiple witnesses who frequent the businesses lining the busy South Side block.

The gathered physical evidence and eyewitness statements quickly pointed to Camper as the primary individual responsible for the knife attack.

Uniformed officers spotted Camper walking through the exact same 200 block of East 51st Street on June 10 and safely executed the arrest without further incident.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the severe felony charges late Thursday night following a thorough review of the police findings.

Camper remains locked in a county holding facility ahead of her mandatory court appearance.

The suspect will stand before a Cook County judge for a formal detention hearing this afternoon at the criminal courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.

Longtime Bronzeville residents expressed visible worry this morning as news of the violent daylight attack began spreading through the close-knit neighborhood.

The residential area features a mix of historic stone flats, public parks, and local mom-and-pop shops where families regularly walk during summer afternoons.

Local community organizers note that while the neighborhood has seen a revitalized business district, residents must stay vigilant regarding personal safety.

Area leaders encourage community members to walk in pairs when traveling along the main corridors during late-night hours and to report any suspicious behavior immediately.

The Chicago Police Department has not released a specific motive behind the initial altercation and continues to withhold the name of the recovering victim.

Area Central detectives expect to reveal more details regarding the relationship between the two women as the formal court proceedings begin later today.

Safety Resource for Residents: The Chicago Police Department urges anyone with additional private security footage of East 51st Street from June 6 to submit anonymous digital tips directly to CPDTIP.com.
