A 78-year-old man was shot and killed inside his Southwest Side home on Tuesday night, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened around 8:01 p.m. in the 4500-block of South Lamon Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found Marvin Cook unresponsive in his living room with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe someone fired dozens of shots into the home from the outside.
Bullet holes were visible in the front windows, and police recovered numerous shell casings on the street.
According to ABC7, police sources suggest the shooting was likely targeted, though a specific motive has not yet been identified.
The violence shook the quiet Garfield Ridge block.
Neighbors reported hearing more than 24 gunshots.
The gunfire was so intense that two parked vehicles on the street were caught in the crossfire, leaving them with shattered windows.
Those who lived near Cook described him as a well-known member of the community.
As of Wednesday morning, no suspects are in custody.
Area One detectives are currently reviewing local surveillance footage to identify the shooter.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
