Chicago police detectives have launched a comprehensive death investigation after authorities discovered two deceased women inside a residential block on the city’s Northwest Side on Friday afternoon.
First responders found the victims completely unresponsive around 2:30 p.m. within the Bucktown neighborhood’s 2300 block of North Leavitt Street.
Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly at the tree-lined residential street but ultimately pronounced both individuals dead right at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office officially identified the deceased individuals on Saturday morning as 36-year-old Shirley Miller Colon and 40-year-old Taina Lopez Rios.
Forensic investigators noted that the exact cause and manner of death for both women remained completely unclear during the initial on-scene assessment.
Area 3 Detectives currently classify the active case as a death investigation while they wait for conclusive autopsy results from county medical pathologists.
Patrol officers closed off a section of North Leavitt Street for several hours on Friday evening to allow evidence technicians to process the interior of the property.
Neighbors along the quiet residential strip expressed immediate concern as multiple police cruisers and forensic vehicles lined the block during the afternoon commute.
Local safety groups are encouraging area residents to ensure all home security systems and doorbell cameras are operational while police piece together the timeline of events.
The Chicago Police Department has not released any information regarding potential suspects, signs of forced entry, or lingering threats to the public.
