43-Year-Old Victim Identified Following Homicide on Hazel Crest’s Maple Lane

A 43-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday night in south suburban Hazel Crest.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Stephon L. Smith.

The shooting took place on the 3500 block of Maple Lane.

This address is listed as the neighborhood where Smith lived.

Medical reports show Smith was pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 p.m.

An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

The Hazel Crest Police Department has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Information regarding the status of the investigation remains limited at this hour.

As of Wednesday morning, no arrests have been reported by local authorities.

Police have not released a possible motive for the deadly attack.

The investigation into the homicide remains active and ongoing.

They noted that Smith was “doing so well on your journey to be the best version of you.”

“I’m gone miss you,” the cousin added. “This hurt I feel all over again is crazy.”

Others expressed pure disbelief that such a “good brother” was taken from them.

Friends described Smith as a man who was “full of life and on his way to better.”

One close friend spoke about the unbreakable bond they shared with the victim.

“I love you big bro, I’m really gonna miss my dawg,” he wrote.

He noted that everyone knew their bond was strong and called Smith “big lord.”

“It hurts even posting this,” he added while wishing his friend a peaceful rest.
