A late-night gathering in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood turned deadly this weekend.
One woman is dead and a man is recovering from injuries after a shooting on the South Side.
The incident occurred Saturday night around 11:45 p.m., according to Chicago police.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 8000-block of South Morgan Street.
A gunman reportedly approached a group of people standing outside.
The suspect then began firing directly into the crowd, striking two individuals.
A 25-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.
Emergency responders rushed her to the University of Chicago Hospital.
Medical staff later pronounced her dead, as reported by ABC7 Chicago.
A 36-year-old man was also hit during the barrage of bullets.
He suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and his right leg.
Paramedics transported him to a local area hospital for treatment.
Doctors expect the man to survive his injuries.
Chicago detectives are currently investigating the motive behind the shooting.
No suspects are in custody at this time.
