A homeowner shot and killed an intruder inside a South Side residence early Monday morning.
The incident occurred in the South Deering neighborhood.
Officers arrived at the 2200-block of East 103rd Street around 1:30 a.m.
According to Chicago police, they found a male suspect with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 33-year-old resident spoke with officers at the house.
He told police that an unidentified person entered his home without permission.
The resident claimed the intruder then charged in his direction.
In response, the man fired his gun.
The bullet struck the home invader in the chest, stopping the advance.
Police have not yet released the identity of the person who died.
Investigators stayed at the home for several hours to collect evidence.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the shooting remains under investigation by local authorities.
No other injuries were reported inside the house.
Area Two detectives are currently leading the investigation into the shooting.
No charges have been filed against the homeowner at this time.
