A violent early morning shooting in Chicago’s West Ridge community left a woman hospitalized on Tuesday, according to initial reports from CBS News Chicago.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:38 a.m. in the 2600 block of West Glenlake Avenue, right near Rockwell Street.
Police confirmed that a man and a woman were sitting inside a parked sport-utility vehicle when two armed men suddenly approached them.
Witnesses at the scene told reporters they believe the armed confrontation was an attempted carjacking.
The two suspects opened fire directly into the vehicle without warning.
At least one bullet struck the woman in her leg during the sudden barrage of gunfire.

Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, where medical staff listed her in fair condition.
Investigating officers later noted visible bullet holes piercing the side panels of the sport-utility vehicle.
The two unidentified shooters fled the neighborhood immediately after the gunfire ceased.
