Chicago police launched a homicide investigation early Monday morning after a shooting left a man dead inside a vehicle on the city’s West Side.
The fatal incident occurred in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, an area that has experienced persistent challenges with community safety and gun violence.
First responders discovered the victim at approximately 12:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of West Kinzie Street.

The vehicle sat parked near the intersection of West Kinzie Street and North Kilbourn Avenue, a commercial and industrial corridor bordering local transit lines.
Officers arriving at the West Side scene located the man sitting inside the driver’s compartment of the automobile.
The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to an official statement released by the Chicago Police Department.
Paramedics quickly arrived at the Kinzie Street location to provide emergency medical treatment to the unresponsive victim.
Ambulance crews rushed the wounded driver to Mount Sinai Hospital, which serves as a major regional trauma center on Chicago’s West Side.
Medical staff admitted the patient in critical condition as doctors attempted life-saving measures in the emergency room.
Despite the efforts of the medical team, doctors later pronounced the unidentified man dead at the hospital.
