STORY YOUMISSED
An Aurora police officer discharged a firearm, hitting a vehicle near a west suburban high school on Tuesday morning after responding to a 911 call about a dangerous driver.
The Incident
Just after 9:30 a.m., Aurora police were dispatched to the area of Jackson Street and East Benton Street. A 911 caller reported that a driver was following them, claiming to be law enforcement, and was reportedly armed with a gun.
Officers located the vehicles near 4th Avenue and South State Street, close to East Aurora High School. The suspect driver was standing outside his vehicle when officers arrived.
During the encounter, an officer fired their weapon once, striking the suspect’s vehicle. No one was injured, and no injuries were reported, police confirmed.
Driver Taken Into Custody
The driver, identified only as a 48-year-old man, was quickly taken into custody. Police stated the man had no connection to any official law enforcement agency.
The officer who fired the shot was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division and its Deadly Force Investigative Team.
