ORIGINAL REPORTING
Melrose Park police officers responded to a critical emergency call inside the Amazon Fulfillment Center parking structure on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred just after 9:10 a.m. in the 1800-block of North Fifth Avenue.
First responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports that an individual had been shot within the multi-level facility.

The shooting took place inside an area of the parking garage that is strictly restricted and only accessible to Amazon employees.
Upon entering the employee garage, authorities discovered a security guard actively attempting to administer life-saving medical aid to the wounded victim.

Emergency medical personnel quickly took over treatment and transported the critically injured individual to Loyola University Medical Center in neighboring Maywood.
Doctors at the hospital later pronounced the victim dead.

Investigating officers recovered two spent shell casings from the pavement inside the secure employee structure.
The suspect fled the area immediately after the gunfire and remains at large.

Village officials confirmed that the fatal encounter stemmed from an ongoing personal dispute between two individuals who knew each other.

Local authorities emphasized that the broader community faces no ongoing threat because the violence did not target the general public.

The West Suburban Major Crime Task Force has assumed control of the active homicide investigation.
Cook County Sheriff’s deputies are currently working alongside local detectives to review security camera footage captured by the building’s surveillance system.

The industrial corridor along North Fifth Avenue remained heavily active with police vehicles throughout the afternoon as investigators processed the crime scene.
Dozens of Amazon employees stood outside the perimeter during the initial response, watching as investigators cordoned off the entrance to their usual parking area.

Neighbors living near the commercial zone expressed sudden worry over seeing such a massive law enforcement presence descending upon a familiar local workplace.
Local community leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles or individuals spotted near the Fifth Avenue corridor to detectives.

Amazon management has not yet released a public statement regarding the current operational status of the Melrose Park facility or whether grief counseling will be provided to the local workforce.

Anyone with information regarding the identity or current location of the suspect is asked to contact the Melrose Park Police Department directly.
