Chicago police detectives are actively requesting the public’s help to identify a man connected to a June shooting that injured a 6-year-old child in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood.

The violent incident occurred in the 700 block of East 51st Street on June 30, 2026, at approximately 8:54 p.m.

According to investigative data from the Chicago Police Department, a single shooter discharged a handgun directly toward the busy intersection of 51st Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.

One of the fired rounds struck a 6-year-old victim who happened to be near the South Side intersection during the evening hours.

Area 1 Detective Division personnel responded to the scene immediately following the gunfire to secure evidence and interview witnesses.

Investigators recently released surveillance video from nearby security cameras showing the suspect fleeing the immediate area.

The captured footage shows the individual walking through a local alleyway moments before the shooting took place.

A second angle from a street camera captures the suspect running down the sidewalk immediately after the weapon was fired.

Police describe the offender as an African American male who was wearing all-black clothing at the time of the assault.

The suspect wore a highly distinct black hooded sweatshirt featuring a large white graphic logo on the front.

This unique graphic on the sweatshirt remains a primary point of identification for community members reviewing the footage.

Local residents frequently walk through this specific commercial corridor, which features several small businesses and public transit access points.

Neighbors expressed immediate concern regarding public safety along the 51st Street corridor following the release of the video.

Community advocates are urging parents to keep children away from major intersections during late-evening hours while the suspect remains at large.

The Chicago Police Department advises residents to stay alert, report any suspicious activity to emergency services, and avoid approaching individuals who match the suspect’s description.

Area 1 Detectives are handling the active investigation under case number JK315331.

Anyone who recognizes the individual or possesses details regarding the shooting should contact Detective Ezquivel #20497 at (312) 747-8380.
