A 29-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash near O’Hare International Airport.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m. in the 12300 block of West Irving Park Road.
Chicago police officers arrived at the scene and determined that the woman was traveling westbound on Irving Park Road when she lost control of her vehicle.
The motorcycle veered off the main driving lane and struck a trackside guardrail.
Emergency medical personnel treated the driver at the scene before transport.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for emergency treatment.
Doctors at the hospital later pronounced her dead due to the severity of her injuries.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the identity of the victim pending notification of her family.
The collision took place along a busy stretch of West Irving Park Road that borders the southern edge of O’Hare Airport property.
This specific corridor serves as a primary arterial route connecting the city’s northwest side with the automated cargo facilities of the airport and nearby Schiller Park.
Local drivers frequently navigate heavy commercial truck traffic and complex lane transitions in this industrial zone.
The Chicago Police Department Major Accident Investigation Unit closed portions of the roadway for several hours on Sunday evening to document the scene.
Investigators focused their attention on the westbound lanes to analyze pavement markings, vehicle debris, and the impact point on the guardrail.
The police department has not yet determined what caused the driver to lose control of the motorcycle.
Officials did not report any other vehicles involved in the fatal incident.
Residents in the nearby O’Hare neighborhood expressed concern over speed management and traffic density along West Irving Park Road.
Community members noted that the area experiences significant freight traffic, which requires heightened awareness from motorcyclists and passenger car drivers alike.
The Illinois Department of Transportation emphasizes that clear sightlines and proper speed adjustments remain critical on airport-adjacent roadways due to sudden shifts in traffic patterns.
Local safety advocates advise motorcyclists to wear full protective gear and monitor pavement conditions carefully, especially when traveling near heavy industrial sectors.
Further updates regarding the victim’s identity and the official cause of the crash will be released as the investigation progresses.
