Recent History
The Ravenswood neighborhood is typically known as a quiet residential area on the city’s North Side.
However, violence against law enforcement in Chicago has seen a worrying trend in recent months.
The 17th District has increased patrols near medical facilities following several retail theft spikes in the area.
This hospital shooting marks one of the most violent incidents in the Ravenswood community this year.
City leaders are now calling for a full review of security protocols at local healthcare centers.
Community members gathered outside the hospital on Saturday night to hold a silent vigil.
The identity of the suspect has not yet been released to the public.
Charges are expected to be filed later this Sunday.
