A Chicago mother, whose violent assault near her child’s school became a viral sensation, has received an outpouring of financial support from the public.
Corshawnda Hatter has raised more than $37,000 through a GoFundMe campaign created on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, just one day after the attack.
Details of the Attack
The violent incident occurred on Monday, November 17, 2025, around 3 p.m., in the 10600 block of South Bensley Avenue.
According to the GoFundMe page, Hatter and her two children, ages nine and six, were walking home from Orville Bright Elementary School when they were confronted by a group of approximately 15 to 20 children and teenagers.
Hatter stated the confrontation began when the group started yelling foul names at her nine-year-old son, who had been dealing with ongoing bullying at school. When she intervened, the situation quickly escalated.
“Next thing I know they started attacking my son then as I was trying to help my son they all jumped me,” the campaign description reads.
Hatter’s attempts to shield her son were unsuccessful due to the size of the group. Both mother and son were rushed to a local hospital afterward and were reported to be in serious condition.
Community Response and Goal
The GoFundMe description, written by Hatter, expresses the mother’s fear and primary goal: “I just want him to feel safe going to school and walking in his own neighborhood.”
The public has responded with overwhelming generosity. Since the campaign’s creation, donations have quickly surpassed $37,000, confirming the community’s desire to help the family recover from the traumatic event.
