A Chicago man will spend the next two decades in prison for a 2022 Naperville home invasion.
DuPage County Judge Margaret O’Connell sentenced 28-year-old Adam Stone to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Friday.
Stone broke into a home on Smokey Court in August 2022 while his ex-girlfriend was visiting.
He gained entry by smashing a basement window in the early morning hours.
Once inside, Stone fought with the residents until they managed to force him out of the house.
The violence did not end there, according to prosecutors.
Stone returned fifteen minutes later and threw a landscape brick through the home’s front window.
He also used bricks to smash the windows of cars parked in the driveway.
Naperville police arrived to find several men holding Stone down outside the residence.
At the time of the attack, Stone was already on probation for a domestic battery conviction in Cook County.
He was found guilty of two counts of Class X felony home invasion following a bench trial last year.
State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the sentence sends a clear message that violent behavior will not be tolerated.
“Our homes are our sanctuaries,” Berlin stated after the sentencing.
Stone has been in custody since his 2022 arrest and will now transfer to state prison.
