Chicago police are searching for two gunmen who opened fire on a group of people in the Back of the Yards neighborhood early Friday morning.
The mass shooting left two men dead and five other individuals hospitalized with various injuries.
Authorities state the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Wood Street.
Two armed men approached a gathering of people standing outside on the residential block before discharging their weapons.
First responders rushed multiple victims to nearby hospitals as patrol officers secured the crime scene.
Medical staff pronounced two male victims dead after they arrived at the hospital in critical condition.
One of the deceased men is 44-year-old Isaac “Wavy” Bradley, a prominent chef at the Black-owned Hyde Park steakhouse Chemistry.
A 23-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her head during the attack.
Paramedics transported her to Stroger Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Four other victims, ranging in age from 21 to 54 years old, survived the shooting with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hospital staff treated three men and one woman from that group for their wounds.
Family members disclosed that Bradley had traveled to the neighborhood overnight to cut hair as a secondary income source.
His sister, Rhena Bradley, described her brother as a dedicated father to his 16-year-old son who lacked any hatred in his character.
Bradley partnered with businessman Erik Rico Nance to operate multiple local dining establishments over the last decade.
Their joint restaurant portfolio included Stussy’s Diner, LiteHouse Whole Food Grill, Soul Shack, and Mikkey’s Retro Grill.
Nance expressed gratitude for their 12-year friendship and professional partnership, noting that Bradley deeply impacted the local culinary community.
Community members face heightened safety concerns as the perpetrators remain at large following the neighborhood violence.
Area One detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and examining physical evidence recovered from South Wood Street.
