A 21-year-old woman is behind bars today facing a first-degree attempted murder charge.
Chicago Police arrested Amiyah Fort on Wednesday morning.
The arrest took place at 9:11 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Ellis Avenue.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted in the capture.
Police identified Fort as the person responsible for a shooting that occurred on January 29, 2026.
That incident took place at approximately 2:05 p.m. in the 0-100 block of East 71st Street.
The victim of the shooting was also a 21-year-old woman.
Emergency responders treated the victim for gunshot wounds following the broad-daylight attack.
Investigators worked for over a month to secure a warrant for Fort’s arrest.
Fort now faces one felony count of Attempted Murder – First Degree.
She is scheduled for a detention hearing today, March 5, 2026.
The hearing will take place at the criminal courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.
