A 59-year-old woman was killed and a 55-year-old man was seriously injured during a shooting on the South Side of Chicago on Thursday.
According to reporting by ABC7 Chicago, the incident occurred at approximately 1:57 p.m. in the 9900 block of South Parnell Avenue.
Chicago police officers responding to the scene discovered the 59-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel pronounced the woman dead at the location of the shooting.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as 59-year-old Deserie Jeffers.
Officials have officially ruled the death of Jeffers a homicide.
Authorities also located a 55-year-old man at the scene who sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital where he remains in serious condition.
