A late-night armed robbery in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood ended in gunfire on Wednesday.

The violent encounter occurred around 11:12 p.m. within the 4400-block of South Michigan Avenue.

A 27-year-old male victim was walking in the area when the confrontation began.
Police officials reported that two individuals armed with handguns approached the man.
The two suspects demanded the victim’s personal property while pointing their firearms at him.
After a brief interaction, the suspects forcibly stole the victim’s belongings.
One of the armed individuals then discharged a weapon, striking the 27-year-old man directly in the stomach.
The two attackers fled the scene immediately after the gunfire.
Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly at the South Michigan Avenue location to treat the wounded man.
Paramedics stabilized the victim on-site before rushing him to a nearby trauma center.
The victim is currently receiving intensive care at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Medical staff listed the man in serious condition as of Thursday morning.
The 4400-block of South Michigan Avenue remained closed for several hours while forensic investigators searched for evidence.
Officers searched the sidewalks and streets for shell casings, discarded property, and surveillance camera footage.
