A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning on Chicago’s South Side.
Police responded to the 4300-block of South Ashland Avenue around 12:30 a.m.
The teenager was standing outside when the violence began.
According to investigators, three male suspects approached the boy on foot.
One member of the group pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
The gunman shot the 17-year-old several times at close range.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to the South Ashland Avenue scene.
Paramedics transported the victim to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
The three suspects fled the area immediately after the shots were fired.
No one is currently in custody for the attack.
Area One detectives are now leading the investigation into the shooting.
Officers are canvassing the neighborhood for any available security footage.
