Two people are recovering today after a violent encounter on a Chicago train.
The attack happened early Wednesday morning on the CTA Red Line.
Police arrived at the scene around 1:26 a.m.
The train was moving through the 200-block of West 47th Street.
This area sits in the heart of Chicago’s South Side.
Officers say a male suspect approached the two victims on the train.
A verbal argument broke out between the group shortly after.
The situation escalated quickly and turned physical.
Police report the suspect pulled out a sharp object.
He then used the weapon to attack both individuals.
Both victims suffered puncture wounds to their necks.
Emergency responders rushed to the 47th Street station.
Paramedics transported both victims to nearby hospitals.
Medical staff currently list both people in fair condition.
The suspect fled the area before police could make an arrest.
Area One detectives are now leading the investigation.
They are looking for any witnesses who were on the train.
Investigators are also expected to review CTA security cameras.
No one is currently in custody for the stabbing.
Crime on the CTA continues to be a major concern for South Side residents.
