A 38-year-old man is in police custody this morning following a dangerous incident on a CTA Blue Line train.
The Chicago Police Department reported that the man tried to start a fire inside a moving subway car.
The incident occurred just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Officers responded to the scene in the 300-block of South Dearborn Street in the Chicago Loop.
According to police, the suspect was traveling on the train when he began attempting to ignite his own personal belongings.
The train was in motion through the heart of the downtown area when the attempted arson began.
Commuters were present on the Blue Line as the morning rush hour started to pick up speed.
Chicago Police confirmed that the man was unsuccessful in his attempt to create a blaze.
Thankfully, no fire was actually started during the disturbance.
Authorities also confirmed that no injuries were reported by passengers or CTA staff.
Witnesses saw the man being led away in handcuffs by responding officers.
The 38-year-old suspect is currently being held by the Chicago Police Department.
Police officials stated that formal charges against the individual are currently pending.

CTA services continued to run as police secured the area and removed the suspect.
