A 45-year-old man lost his life Sunday night following a targeted shooting on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
The gunfire erupted around 8:32 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 62nd Street.
Responding officers found the victim on the sidewalk in the West Elsdon neighborhood.

The man was simply standing outside when a gunman opened fire.
One bullet struck the victim directly in the head.
Emergency responders rushed the 45-year-old to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Doctors later pronounced him dead at the hospital.
Investigators believe the shooter fled the scene in a black vehicle.

Area One detectives are currently canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage.
No suspects are in custody as of Monday morning.
Violence Trends in West Elsdon
The 3900 block of West 62nd Street is typically a residential stretch of the Southwest Side.
However, West Elsdon and neighboring West Lawn have seen a recent uptick in vehicular-based shootings.
Local residents report an increase in high-speed chases and “drive-up” style confrontations over the last six months.
This specific corridor sits near the busy Pulaski Road intersection, a frequent getaway route for offenders.
Last year, community leaders called for increased patrols in Area One due to similar late-night incidents.
Police are looking into whether this shooting was a random act or a targeted hit.
The use of a black getaway vehicle matches descriptions from two other nearby incidents earlier this winter.
Safety concerns continue to grow for neighbors who frequently walk these blocks at night.
