Five people were injured during a shooting on Chicago’s South Side Wednesday evening.
The gunfire erupted in the 6700 block of South Stony Island Avenue.
Chicago Fire Department officials confirmed the incident occurred near the border of the Woodlawn and South Shore neighborhoods.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene just after nightfall.
At least five victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Police have not yet released the ages or genders of those wounded.
The current medical conditions of the victims remain unknown.
Officers cordoned off a large perimeter around a local gas station.
Crime scene investigators spent hours documenting the area.
Video footage from the scene shows dozens of yellow evidence markers on the pavement.
Multiple shell casings were visible scattered across the ground near the fuel pumps.
No suspects are currently in custody.
Congresswoman Robin Kelly issued a statement shortly after the violence.
She stated that preventing gun violence remains her top priority in the U.S. Senate.
Kelly noted that South Side communities deserve better than the current cycle of violence.
Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

In recent months, residents have expressed growing concerns over safety at neighborhood gas stations.
Last summer, a similar multi-victim shooting occurred just blocks away in South Shore.
Community leaders have called for increased patrols as the city prepares for higher foot traffic near the future Obama Presidential Center.
