The family of Shawn Byers Jr. is breaking their silence after months of what they call “hushed” investigative silence.
On September 16, Byers was allegedly shot seven times in Chicago Heights.
He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach, and legs.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on September 17.
Byers was a father, a companion, and a rising rapper known to his community.
His fiancée claims she tracked his final movements via Life360 before his phone died at one percent.

She reportedly handed over her phone, video evidence, and precise GPS locations to detectives.
The data allegedly shows Byers was in the company of “friends” who have since vanished.
His family states that the individuals he was with that night showed no signs of injury.
The victim’s phone, which was moving toward his home after the shooting, was never recovered.
Byers’ family feels the case has been kept out of the public eye intentionally.
They claim Chicago Heights Police have not shared police reports or updates since the night of the identification.
The family is now demanding transparency and asking why no media outlets reported the killing in September.
Violence in Chicago Heights
Chicago Heights has seen a persistent struggle with gun violence over the last year.

The area near 130th and the “Gardens” has been a frequent point of interest for local law enforcement.
Similar unsolved shootings in the south suburbs have left many families feeling abandoned by the justice system.
In many cases, a “wall of silence” prevents witnesses from coming forward in tight-knit social circles.
The lack of public alerts on the night of September 16 has added to the family’s suspicion of a “setup.”
Without a public narrative, many crimes in the Heights go cold before they even reach a courtroom.
