Two Lisle teenagers face serious felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a female acquaintance in a Naperville Walgreens washroom.
Naperville police responded to a 911 call at the 713 East Ogden Avenue store around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 11.
Authorities say the victim was in the store’s bathroom when 17-year-old James Patterson and a 15-year-old male entered.
Patterson allegedly pinned the victim against a stall wall and attacked her after she tried to resist and escape.
The 17-year-old reportedly punched the victim repeatedly before sexually assaulting her.
During the attack, the 15-year-old allegedly used a phone to record the assault while also participating in the sexual abuse.
The victim managed to alert store employees after the assault, prompting the suspects to flee the scene on foot.
Police officers quickly located both teens nearby and took them into custody.
At the time of his arrest, Patterson was allegedly in possession of the victim’s cell phone.
Patterson is charged as an adult with four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and one count of Robbery.
The 15-year-old faces charges in juvenile court, including Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Child Sexual Abuse Material counts.
Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s motion to detain Patterson pre-trial during a Monday afternoon hearing.
The younger teen also remains in custody following a separate detention hearing this morning.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin called the allegations “extremely serious” and “unimaginable.”
Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres expressed disgust over the “violent and dehumanizing act” and praised his officers for the swift arrests.
Patterson’s next court appearance is set for February 2, while the 15-year-old returns to court on January 27.
