The 37-year-old woman shot and killed by an ICE agent during a Wednesday raid has been identified as Renee Nicole Good.
As the community mourns, new details have surfaced regarding her family and her late ex-husband, Timmy Ray Macklin Jr.
Renee Good was previously married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who passed away in 2023 at age 36.
The couple had a six-year-old son together.
Following Good’s death on Wednesday, Timmy Ray Macklin Sr., the boy’s grandfather, expressed his heartbreak and his plan to secure the child’s future.
“There’s nobody else in his life,” Macklin Sr. told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “I’ll drive. I’ll fly. To come and get my grandchild.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims the shooting was an act of self-defense.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated that Good used her SUV as a weapon to attempt to run over agents, describing the incident as “an act of domestic terrorism.”
However, Good’s family and witnesses tell a different story.
Her mother, Donna Ganger, told reporters that her daughter was “extremely compassionate” and likely “terrified” during the raid.
Reports from the Daily Mail suggest Good and her wife were present at the scene as legal observers to film the protest.
A video from the scene shows Good’s wife frantically calling for help after the shots were fired.
“That’s my wife… I have a six-year-old at school,” she can be heard saying.
Photos from the vehicle showed children’s toys and drawings, highlighting the domestic life of the woman federal agents labeled a threat.
Renee Good was a poet and an award-winning student at Old Dominion University before moving to Minneapolis.
She died just blocks from her home.
