A 16-year-old boy, identified as David Mason Jr., was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon in the Garfield Park neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side, according to police.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of West End Avenue. Police confirmed that Mason was standing near a sidewalk when he was struck by multiple gunshots from an unknown source.
No details were immediately available on whether the shooter or shooters were on foot or in a vehicle.
Mason was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy to determine the official cause of death is scheduled for Wednesday. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Harrison Area detectives have launched a homicide investigation, but as of now, no arrests have been made.
The family and friends of the deceased have been asked to be kept in prayers as they mourn their tragic loss.
