Grammy-winning Nigerian music icon, Wizkid, has once again opened up about the pain he continues to endure following the loss of his beloved mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun. The Afrobeats superstar, who rarely delves into personal matters on social media, took to X to express the lasting grief that her absence has left in his heart.

“Miss my Queen every day,” the Morayo crooner wrote in a brief yet deeply emotional post.

Though just a few words, the message resonated powerfully with fans, many of whom flooded the comments with words of comfort, prayers, and shared stories of their own losses. It’s not the first time Wizkid has paid tribute to his mother, whom he often described as his rock, biggest supporter, and guiding force throughout his career.

Mrs. Balogun passed away on August 18, 2023, a day the family described as one of unimaginable loss. Her death came as a shock to fans and colleagues across the world, many of whom paid tribute to her role in shaping the man and artist Wizkid has become.

In the months since her passing, the award-winning singer has maintained a relatively low profile, occasionally dropping emotional reflections like this recent one. Earlier this month, he sparked concern after abruptly cancelling several dates on his Morayo U.S. tour. While no official explanation was given, insiders and fans speculated that the cancellations were due to the singer’s ongoing emotional struggle with grief.

For a global icon who has scaled the heights of fame and success, Wizkid’s public vulnerability serves as a reminder that even stars carry deep personal pain. And for Wizkid, the memory of his mother, his “Queen” continues to echo through his life and music.
