Who is Ioan Pinatru? Man Arrested After Leicester Square Stabbing Incident

A man has been charged with attempted murder after an 11-year-old girl was stabbed in Leicester Square.

Ioan Pinatru, 32, who has no fixed address, also faces a charge of possessing a bladed weapon. BBC reported.

Initially, it was believed that the girl’s mother had been injured as well, but it was later clarified that the blood from her daughter’s wounds had been mistaken for the mother’s own injuries.

The girl was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Mr. Pinatru has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Police responded to the incident in Leicester Square, central London, at 11:30 BST on Monday.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah commended those who “bravely intervened” during the incident, highlighting their courage and saying they “showed the best of London.”

She added that investigators are working to determine the suspect’s motive and urged anyone with information or who witnessed the event to contact the police.
