LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following reports of the death of popular Afrobeats singer, Afeez Adeshina, better known as Destiny Boy.
The news broke on Sunday afternoon, January 18, 2026, after Instagram journalist Temilola Sobola shared a post announcing his passing.
“Singer Destiny Boy has passed away. May his soul rest in peace,” Sobola wrote to her followers.
The cause of his death also remains unknown.
Destiny Boy gained national fame for his unique “Fuji-infused” Afrobeats sound.
He first went viral for his street-style covers of popular hits, carving out a niche that earned him a massive grassroots following in Lagos and beyond.
The singer had a busy and eventful 2024. In March, he made headlines after proposing to his partner with a multi-million naira diamond ring.
Later in November 2024, he celebrated the birth of his first child, a milestone he shared joyfully with his fans.
