1. Banana Island

Banana Island is one of the nicest parts of Lagos, Nigeria. It is a manmade island home that houses some of the richest people in this state. This area is characterized by its luxurious homes, high-end amenities, quiet streets, and serene landscapes.

This place is said to have a community of more than 2000 residents from different parts of the world due to its serene environs. For people with young kids, there are good schools here like, the Banana Island School (BIS) which you’d want to enrol your child into.

People who choose to stay in Banana Island, do so because of how secure the place is. The main entrance is guarded by armed security personnel 24 hours a day. There are also security people actively present on the island. 

2. Victoria Island

Located in the heart of Lagos Island, Victoria Island was named after Queen Victoria. Next to Banana Island, this place is another affluent neighbourhood where numerous businesses and embassies reside. It is also famous for its magnificent surroundings, elite hotels, restaurants, stores, malls, and clubs.

VI is an area in the Eti-Osa Local Government. It shares its borders with other areas like Lagos Island, Ikoyi, and Lekki Peninsula.

This place is considered to be one of the nicest places to live in Lagos and has become a choice destination for multinational companies and businesses to have their headquarters. Most countries like the US and India built their embassies here. Victoria Island is also where the spectacular Eko Atlantic is located. 

3. Ikoyi

Ikoyi is a historic neighbourhood famous for its stunning beaches and green spaces. It is home to many high-end schools, government offices like the Nigerian Immigration Centre, and hospitals. Ikoyi is flocked to by expatriates because of its high-end real estate, fine eateries, and luxurious hotels.

Organizations that have offices in Ikoyi include Google Nigeria, the World Health Organization, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Additionally, the Nigerian Government Presidential Secretariat and Deputy-Governor of Lagos State reside in Ikoyi.

Ikoyi is said to be the nicest place in Lagos because it houses the richest and most upper-class citizens in the state. The crime rate here is zero, and this feature is complemented by top-notch security. This place can also boast of having the best road networks in Nigeria.

4. Lekki

Lekki is a natural peninsula which is close to Victoria Island and Ikoyi. It is a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean to its south, Lagos Lagoon to the North, and the Lekki Lagoon to its East. Regarded as the Beverly Hills of Nigeria, Lekki is one place where you can find celebrities in Lagos.

In terms of growth and development, this area has gone further than places like Victoria Island, Ikoyi, and the rest of Lagos Island. This wealthy neighbourhood is considered to be one of the best places to build a business in Lagos.

Lekki, Lagos provides excellent job opportunities, reliable government support, high-quality private schools, world-class medical facilities, shopping complexes, malls, beaches, sports, restaurants, and recreational facilities. Some of the best areas in this place are Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, Richmond Gate, and Victoria Garden City.

5. Ikeja

You can’t talk about the nicest part of Lagos, Nigeria, without including Ikeja. Ikeja is by far the best place to live in this city if you are a corporate worker doing 9-5. Most companies have their offices there and some of them are hiring professionals.

Besides being the capital of Lagos, Ikeja is also recognized as the central business district of this city. It houses certain government parastatals like the Governor’s office and government house. There are also Government Residential Areas that are safe and conducive.

Another thing to know about Ikeja is that it is a highly industrial area with numerous companies and good schools. Oh, and if you don’t have money to rent a house on the Island, Ikeja is the second-best option. Check, Maryland and Isaac John when renting a space.

6. Yaba

Yaba is another great place to live in Lagos, especially if you’ll be staying on the Mainland. It is said to be one of the best places to start a family in this city. While Yaba is not as high-brow as Lekki or VI, it is still counted amongst the nicest parts of Lagos, Nigeria to stay in as a student or office worker.

This area is ideal for living for two reasons. First, it is very close to Lagos Island; with the 3rd mainland bridge acting as a demarcation between the two places. Second, it has numerous houses, schools, and marketplaces (Tejusho, Oyingbo). Schools around Yaba include – The University of Lagos, Federal School Science and Technical College, Federal College of Education, Queens College, Yaba College of Technology, and the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.

Companies such as Co-Creation Hub and Andela, also have their offices at Yaba. This is another reason why it is a hotspot amongst business minded Lagos residents.

7. Surulere

Surulere is a bubbly neighbourhood that is made up of individuals from all walks of life. It is famed for its bustling markets, delicious meals, and diverse cultural attractions. This district excels with outstanding work prospects, government assistance, first-class schools, healthcare facilities, trendy shopping locations, and recreational experiences.

This place is a hidden gem, which is why it is not immediately considered to be the nicest part of Lagos, Nigeria. However, Surulere is one of the best places to live in Lagos. It is at the centre of the city and leads to almost every route and road in Lagos. From Surulere you’ll go to the stadium, Oshodi, Victoria Island, Alaba, etc.

It is an urban area adorned with street lights, malls, sports complexes, CCTV cameras, boutiques, and tarred roads.

Surulere is a neat and conducive environment that has popular landmarks like the National Stadium Lagos, National Arts Theatre, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Mall, Ojuelegba, Amala Shitta, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), and the Nigerian Breweries.
