The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed rumours claiming the cancellation of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A false statement, falsely attributed to the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), circulated widely, alleging the exams were cancelled due to widespread malpractice, including leaked papers, AI-enhanced cheating tools, and compromised staff.
The fake notice claimed all exams from July 22, 2025, were cancelled, previously written papers were void, and a new timetable would be released.
Moyo Adesina, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, described the statement as “fictitious” and a product of misinformation, according to Vanguard.
She confirmed that the marking of exam scripts is nearing completion, with results to be released soon. WAEC is preparing an official statement to address the issue further and urges the public to disregard the false claims.
