Manchester United are closing in on signing Wolves winger Matheus Cunha, with the club set to activate his £62.5million release clause.
According to reports, a verbal agreement has been reached with the forward joining on a five-year deal, with an option for a further year.
The Red Devils endured a disappointing season finishing 15th in the Premier League, and also losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite being out of Europe next season, Cunha has agreed to join Manchester United according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano wrote on X: “All formal steps for Matheus Cunha deal will start this week.
“Contracts will be checked on player side for five year deal +1 year option, while Man United and Wolves will complete all details of installments for £62.5m release clause.”
Cunha scored 15 goals and recorded six assists for struggling Wolves in the Premier League this season.
Manchester United manager, Amorim is known to be an admirer of Cunha, and he has been leading the charge to bring him to Old Trafford.
Amorim said in April: “I will not say anything about Matheus, because if I say one time I will have to say for any situation that is yes or no.
“I will not comment on that. It’s hard to predict what is going to happen in the future.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has urged Cunha to reject the club.
He said: “He looks like he’s got the attributes that Ruben Amorim wants. He knows that physically, his team are just not strong or quick enough, so Matheus Cunha is obviously athletic, and he’s got quality with 15 league goals this season.
“I just worry for any signing coming to Manchester United at the minute. It just feels like it’s such a bad place to go. The quality of play right now is so poor.”
Manchester United are also expected to move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as Amorim is set to oversee a major overhaul of the squad this summer.
