There are about 205 accredited college of Education in Nigeria but which one of them has earned the right to be at the top? Some of them you know, others may be new to you.

Factors like accreditation, reputation, academic excellence, research opportunities, and many others are used to determine the best academic institutions in Nigeria. So, without further Ado, these are the top 10 colleges of Education in Nigeria.

Adeyemi College of Education

Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Nigeria, was founded in 1963. Adeyemi College of Education was named after the revered Nigerian educator, Adeyemi, who was a prominent figure in the development of education in the country.

From undergraduate to postgraduate studies, Adeyemi College of Education strives to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the field of education. The curriculum is designed to be comprehensive, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experiences to prepare graduates for the challenges of the teaching profession.

Over the years, the college has evolved into a dynamic institution with a rich history and a commitment to providing quality education.

Adeyemi College of Education is affiliated with Obafemi Awolowo University and it is one of the most renowned colleges in Nigeria.

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo

The Federal College of Education Special (FCE), Oyo, is a prominent institution located in Oyo town, Nigeria. Established in 1977, it is dedicated to providing quality teacher education at the NCE (National Certificate in Education) level. FCE Oyo is known for its commitment to producing skilled and knowledgeable educators who contribute to the development of the education sector in Nigeria.

It was established as the Federal Advanced Teachers College of Special Education on October 5, 1977, and later renamed the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo. This distinct institution is dedicated to training teachers and para-professionals specializing in special education for individuals with disabilities, the gifted, and those facing various learning difficulties.

It provides courses in arts and social sciences, sciences, vocational and technical education, and physical and health education. The NCE programs typically span three years and equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective teaching.

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo is affiliated with the University of Ibadan.

Tai Solarin College of Education

Tai Solarin College of Education is an institution located in Ogun State, Nigeria. It is named after Nigerian educator and social activist Tai Solarin. The college is known for its focus on teacher education and offers various programs in education. It equips undergraduate to postgraduate level students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective educators, contributing to the development of a well-educated society.

The college also has the distinction of being the country’s only institution that provides both Bachelor’s degree programs in education (B.Ed.) and training for National Certificate of Education (NCE) graduates in the same academic setting.

Tai Solarin College of Education prides itself on embracing innovative teaching methods. The curriculum is designed to be dynamic, to ensure that students are well-prepared for the evolving educational landscape. This commitment to innovation positions graduates as forward-thinking educators.

Federal College of Education Zaria

Federal College of Education Zaria is located in Tudan Wada, Kaduna. It was established in 1962 to address the growing demand for well-trained educators. The college has evolved over the years, embracing changes in educational paradigms while staying true to its core values.

FCE Zaria is affiliated with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Kaduna. The college has a large student body. Standard educational facilities like Accommodation, roads, Classrooms, Library amongst others are available at the school. They create a good learning environment for students.

Federal College of Education, Zaria offers academic programs in Agriculture, Science & Technology, Social Science, Arts and Management.

Niger State College of Education Minna

Niger State College Of Education, Minna was built by the state government in 1975.
It was established as an additional Advanced Teachers College in order to meet the teacher needs in the state.

It is a state-owned technical institution focused on research, teaching and training teachers for both intermediate and higher education sectors.

The College offers several courses leading to the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). Other courses run by the College are the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) and Undergraduate programmes in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.

Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta

The Federal College of Education, Abeokuta was established in 1976 as the Federal Advanced Teachers College. It provides three-year full-time and five-year sandwich courses respectively leading to the award of the Nigeria Certificate in Education [NCE].

It has an affiliate programme with the University of Ibadan (UI) for B.Ed degree courses and also partners with Lagos State University (LASU) for its sandwich programmes.

College of Education, Warri

The college was initially established as an Advanced Teachers’ College at Ihogbe, Benin City on the 2nd of October, 1979 by the defunct Bendel State Government.
Subsequently, it was officially opened as a college on the 5th May 1980 by His Excellency, Late Professor Ambrose Alli, the Executive Governor of the State.

The College runs Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree programmes in Education. It is affiliated with the University of Benin (Uniben) and Delta State University ( Delsu).

College of Education Ikere

The College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, is a state-owned and managed college of education. It was founded, in 1997, and
located in Ekiti State to be precise.

It offers programmes in Management and Social Science, Arts, and Science and Technology.

On the 16th of October, 2020, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, changed the College of Education Ikere to the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti.

Federal College of Education Kano

FCE Kano was established as an advanced Training college in 1965. It has the vision to be a cradle that meets the demands of modern challenges through renewed ideas based on global best practices.

FCE Kano offers programmes in Science, Language, Arts and Social Sciences, Vocational and Technical Education, early childcare education, and adult and non-formal education.

Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba

FCET, Asaba began in 1987 at the former Asaba Technical College, (ATC). The College consist of the School of Education, the School of Business Education, the School of Technical Education, the School of Vocational Education and the School of Computer and Science Education. Pre-degree, NCE, PDE and other programmes are available at the institution.
