Traffic flow was disrupted on the Third Mainland Bridge this afternoon after a Sienna space bus was completely engulfed in an inferno near the University of Lagos (Unilag) waterfront. The incident occurred on the lane heading toward Lagos Island.
The fire, which was first reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) at 2:58 PM, involved a single Sienna vehicle. Swift action was taken by emergency services, and thankfully, no casualties were recorded in the incident.
Men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.
The burnt remains of the vehicle were cleared off the road by 5:15 PM, according to an update from LASTMA. The rapid response and clearance operation helped in restoring normal traffic movement on the crucial bridge shortly after.
Motorists were temporarily advised to seek alternative routes while the emergency operation was underway, and commuters are now urged to drive with caution in the area. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
