South Padre Island Shark Attack: 4 People affected

According to officials, a shark attack occurred at South Padre Island, and four people were injured while in the water.

All of the attacks took place on Thursday in Texas during Fourth of July celebrations and were thought to be linked to the same shark.

At approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday, South Padre Island police were called to the 4100 block of Gulf Boulevard in reference to a man who had suffered a severe shark bite to his leg.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital after receiving first aid at the scene from SPIPD and the Fire Department. The severity of the other shark bites is unknown to KSAT.

Drones were used by the beach patrol to search the shoreline.

Game Warden Capt. Chris Dowdy says all the attacks happened within two hours of each other.

In a video, one woman had a chunk bitten out her her leg as Good Samaritans were seen dragging her to safety.

According to officials, the shark has escaped into open waters and there are currently no plans in place to contain it.
