Social media has been set abuzz after a surprising video emerged showing more than 20 Master’s degree holders turning up to compete for a cameraman position advertised by popular Nigerian content creator and streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller.
The job opening, which has now gone viral for its unusual academic requirement, demanded that applicants must possess at least a Master’s degree; a prerequisite that left many netizens stunned and amused. Even more shocking to many was the fact that dozens of highly educated individuals responded eagerly to the offer.
In the now-circulating interview clip, Peller is seen in a relaxed setting, casually greeting and bantering with a group of about ten male and female applicants. At one point, he jokes with a candidate, asking if their certificate is truly inside the envelope they brought. The mood was playful, but the message was clear: competition was stiff.
The cameraman role reportedly comes with a mouthwatering monthly salary of ₦500,000, making it significantly more lucrative than many conventional white-collar jobs in the country.
According to Peller, only two candidates will be selected out of the pool of hopefuls, intensifying the pressure around the unique job opening.
Despite the fun tone of the video, it has triggered fierce debate on social media, with users divided over the optics of highly educated Nigerians scrambling for a job that many feel doesn’t require such academic credentials.
Some critics questioned the applicants’ decisions, expressing concern over the apparent mismatch between their academic achievements and the job’s nature especially since Peller himself isn’t known to have a formal academic background.
Others, however, saw it as a reflection of Nigeria’s harsh economic realities, where even the most educated citizens are forced to chase unconventional but better-paying opportunities.
“₦500k a month is not beans,” one Instagram user commented. “People have degrees but no jobs. Peller is offering value, so why not?”
As the clip continues to make waves online, many are watching closely to see who eventually lands the coveted role and what it says about the changing face of employment in the digital age.
