Nigerian rapper Chibuzor Azubike Nelson, popularly known as Phyno, has strongly refuted a viral claim that he sold his N10 billion estate in Lagos to an Arab businessman due to tribal sentiments.
A journalist with the handle JustSociety4All had alleged in a now-deleted tweet that Phyno regretted investing in Lagos, stating that Igbos were not welcomed in Yoruba land. The tweet further claimed the rapper planned to relocate the estate to Enugu for safety and generational benefit.
The controversial post quoted Phyno as saying:
“The last election opened my eyes. The hatred towards Igbos is something that seems like it will last forever. Instead of building in Yoruba land, I’m relocating my estate to Enugu, where my people will make good use of it and it will remain safe for generations.”
Reacting swiftly, Phyno slammed the report as completely false and malicious.
“You are a fool for cooking up this type of lie!!! Where are you heading with this? Anwu nta,” the rapper wrote.
For those unfamiliar, “Anwu nta” is an Igbo phrase that translates to “mosquito,” often used as an insult to describe something or someone irritating or insignificant.
Phyno’s response has since drawn support from fans who condemned the spread of fake news aimed at stirring ethnic tensions.
