Nigerian Rep Alex Ikwechegh Set to Be Arraigned in Kuje Court
Abia federal lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh, accused of assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja, is set to be arraigned at the Kuje Magistrate Court today, Wednesday, at 12 noon.
The probe and prosecution of Ikwechegh are being handled by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit.
Alex Ikwechegh was seen in a viral video physically assaulting the Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The incident took place on October 27, when a Bolt driver was delivering a package to federal lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.
Following the altercation, Ikwechegh issued an apology and pledged to cooperate with the ongoing police investigation, noting that he is seeking counseling to address his behavior.
Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju in a statement said, “We are heading to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honorable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Steven, a Bolt driver. The IGP’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is handling the investigation and prosecution.”
“The media is invited to cover the arraignment, which is scheduled for 12 pm today at Kuje Magistrate.”
