The Super Eagles of Nigeria advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship game after defeating the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4–2 on penalties.
In a thrilling first semifinal of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 on penalties thanks to a goal from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.
In addition to penalties, Teboho Mokoena’s 90th-minute spot kick equalized the score, and William Troost-Ekong’s goal midway through the second half gave Nigeria the lead. The match ended 1-1 after extra time.
