Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are safe for consumption when properly regulated, according to Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
In a recent interview with Channels TV, Adeyeye explained that the safety of GMOs depends on the type of food and adherence to strict safety protocols.
“GMOs are not inherently bad,” Adeyeye stated.
“Their safety hinges on rigorous testing and compliance with standards.”
She emphasized that NAFDAC requires all GMO products to carry clear labels, enabling consumers to make informed choices.
The clarification comes amid growing public debate about the use of genetically modified foods in Nigeria.
Adeyeye urged consumers to trust NAFDAC’s oversight, assuring that the agency prioritizes public health in its regulatory processes.
