Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has urged his side to move on from the disappointing 4-3 defeat to Brentford on Sunday and focus on the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad.
The Red Devils will take on Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final clash at Old Trafford.
However, It was a poor performance from a second string Manchester United side after Amorim made eight changes to the team with some of their regulars getting a deserved rest.
Chido Obi started as the number nine, becoming the youngest player to start a Premier League match for the club at the age of 17 years and 156 days.
Mason Mount gave Manchester United the lead in the 14th minute with his first goal of the season.
Luke Shaw scored an own goal in the 27th minute to restore parity for Brentford.
The hosts took the lead in the 33rd minute through Kevin Schade with a powerful header, he added another header in the 70th minute to make it 3-1.
Former Flying Eagles defender Michael Kayode assisted Yoane Wissa fornrhr fourth goal of the game before Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo scored two late goals for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have now failed to win in their last six matches in the Premier League to slip to 15th on the table.
Amorim blamed the team’s lack of height while urging his side to switch focus to the Real Sociedad clash.
He said: “It was a little bit of a reflection of our moment. We started well, we controlled the game quite well but then throw-ins and set-pieces were a problem for us, but that is normal because we didn’t have the height in the team. That is something that we need to address when we come to these games. But the context is the context in this moment.
“We were near the draw, we suffered [to go] 3-1 down and then we let go. It was quite similar to the first games we had where we lost control for a second and suffered two goals in a row. We fought back, we were near, we tried to push but then, in the end, we lost.”
The Portuguese manager said he was impressed with the performances of the young players in the encounter.
Amorim said: “I liked [the performance of] the young kids. I liked how we controlled the game without many occasions to score. We fought and in the end we lost, but there are good things for the future.
“I think it’s stressful to lose games. When we’re fighting for a title it’s not stressful. I have no doubts that we are playing better and we are understanding the way we play, even in this context. So we have to take all the hits in these moments.
“We are losing games in the Premier League, but we are fighting for the Europa League so we need to accept that and to think about it now Thursday which is the most important game for us.”
The defeat left Manchester United in 15th, on 39 points from 35 matches, while Brentford moved into ninth, one point behind eighth-placed Bournemouth.
