Iconic American singer and founder of the soul and funk band Maze, Frankie Beverly, has passed away at the age of 77.

The legendary musician died on Tuesday, with his family confirming the sad news on the official Instagram account of Frankie Beverly and Maze on Wednesday.

In a heartfelt statement, the family shared their grief, saying, “Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deep and emotional experience. During this time, as we are navigating feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance, we ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way.

Frankie Beverly was best known for his work with Maze, the influential soul and funk band he founded in 1970.
