Chicago police have charged a man with first-degree murder for a shooting that happened last year.
Latheryan Buckner, 36, faces one felony count of murder.
Police arrested Buckner on March 9, 2026.

The arrest took place in the 2600 block of South California Avenue.
Investigators say Buckner is responsible for the death of 41-year-old Kevin Allen.
The shooting occurred on August 4, 2025, in the Englewood neighborhood.

Allen was walking in the 1100 block of West 56th Street around 5:35 p.m.
A shooter opened fire and struck Allen in the cheek.
Emergency crews rushed him to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Doctors later pronounced the 41-year-old man dead at the hospital.
The Area One Homicide Investigation Support Team led the long-term investigation.
Buckner is scheduled for a detention hearing today, March 11, 2026.
The hearing will be held at the courthouse located at 2600 South California Avenue.
