Nigerian dancer Korra Obidi has triggered a wave of controversy after sharing a video of herself dancing and twerking at the gravesite of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Korra revealed on Instagram that she recently visited Fela’s memorial and chose to honour him in her own signature style: an energetic dance tribute. According to her, the gesture was inspired by Fela’s well-known love for bold, expressive women and vibrant performances.
She added that Seun Kuti appreciated the moment during her visit, describing her performance as something that aligned with Fela’s spirited personality and cultural influence.
The clip has since spread across social media, drawing mixed reactions. While some fans viewed the dance as a creative homage, many others felt it was inappropriate and disrespectful to the late music icon.
Korra, however, maintained her stance, saying:
“We all know that one thing Fela loved was a woman with gyrating hips, so I decided to pay Baba a homage. I decided to shake my ny@sh for Baba. Seun was very happy. He said you guys know what Baba likes but you’ve never given him. Baba, this is a little twerk for you. Your legacy lives on, we love you.”
