Inter Milan have suffered a major injury blow after star striker Lautaro Martinez was ruled out of the Champions League return leg clash against Barcelona.
Martinez suffered a hamstring injury in the first leg which ended 3-3 and he was subbed off at halftime.
The club confirmed on Friday that Martinez has suffered a hamstring injury but declined to state how long he will be out.
The statement read: “Lautaro Martinez had various clinical and instrumental examinations this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. It was found that the Argentine forward has an elongation of the flexor muscles in his left thigh. His conditions will continue to be reviewed day by day.”
According to reports in Italy, Martinez is expected to be out of action for two weeks, which rules him out of the return leg against Barcelona on Tuesday.
Martinez’s injury is a major blow for Inter Milan as they aim to recover from their poor run of form which has seen them lose their last three matches in domestic competitions without scoring.
They will be back in action in the Serie A against Verona at home on Saturday.
Inzaghi is expected to rotate the squad ahead of the return leg against Barcelona next week.
Martinez has scored 21 goals in 47 appearances for Inter Miami in all competitions this season.
