Barcelona have suffered a major injury blow as star defender Joules Kounde suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-3 draw against Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Kounde was subbed off injured in the first half of the encounter, and Barcelona have provided an update about his injury.
The club confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Kounde has suffered a hamstring injury.
The statement reads: “Tests carried out on first team player Jules Kounde this morning have shown he has a distal hamstring injury in his left leg. His evolution will determine when he returns to first team activities.”
Media outlets in Spain are reporting that Kounde will be ruled out of action for three weeks effectively ruling him out of the second leg against Inter Milan, and the El Classico on May 11.
Kounde has been a key part of the Barcelona side competing for an historic treble, making 53 appearances in all competitions this season. He also scored the winning goal against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.
Barcelona have been without the services of the likes of Robert Lewandoski, Marc Casado in the last few weeks.
Hansi Flick’s men will be hoping to extend their lead in the La Liga title race to seven points with a win against Valladolid on Saturday.
Barcelona are blessed with options to replace Kounde with the likes of Hector Fort available to play at right-back, while Ronald Araujo could also fill in, or Eric Garcia, who replaced him on Wednesday.
